THE CHOIRS
During each season, the Viva choirs will perform together in two
main concerts in addition to school tours, community outreach and
cooperative programmes. For example, lately the choir hosted San Franciso's Ragazzi Boys' Chorus, and performed with
the early music wind ensemble A Great Noyse. The summary of our various choirs tailored
to age and performance levels is as follows:

Foundation is an introductory level for VIVA. This group
develops musical literacy and other skills utilizing Kodaly
principles and is open to all singers in this age range without

Viva Young Men’s Ensemble
– Conducted by Nicholas Fairbank
This group is Victoria's only boys' choir for changing and
changed voices (tenor, baritone, bass). Admission is by audition.
Concert Choir, Young Men and Chorale rehearse together for
the 6:30–7:45pm portion, including a music literacy
component. Young Men continue alone until 8:45pm. For

Viva Chorale – Conducted by Nicholas Fairbank
This award-winning group is for experienced musicians with
high (treble) voices, performing the most advanced repertoire.
Admission is by audition. The Chorale rehearses alone from 5:30 pm; Concert Choir, Young Men and Chorale
rehearse together for the 6:30–7:45pm portion, including

Voice Coaching Sessions
Viva offers a free voice coaching session (or audition for the
Chorale or the Young Men’s Choir) by appointment at selected
times throughout the year. Find out if you’d like to join
one of Viva’s boys, girls or co-ed groups, beginner to advanced—West
Shore Choir, West Shore & UVic Foundation Choirs, Boys &
Girls Choirs, or auditioned groups: Concert Choir, Young Men and
Chorale — something for everyone aged 6 through 18 years. No
experience is necessary for most of the choirs.
